Yauatcha

This weekend involved a visit to the uber stylish Yauatcha in Soho. This contemporary restaurant serves up modern Chinese cuisine in a dressy but laid back atmosphere. We started off with a couple of cocktails at the bar whilst waiting for our table. These included a punchy amaretto…sour for me and a very elegant lychee martini for Jerina.

The atmosphere was buzzing ad vibrant – the cool young things were definitely out in Soho that evening (alas ourselves not included 😉 )

As we were lead to our table an electric blue lit fish tank streamlined the bar filled with an array of tropical fish. The acoustics left us a little hard to hear each other speak but the food was certainly worth pretending we understood every word. We started with a sumptuous duck salad, with grapefruit and familiar micro greens that left our taste buds tantalised. Dim sum included prawn har gau, pork with crab shui mai and mouthwatering sirloin beef cheung fun. We then followed with sweet and sour pork with vegetables and a special fried rice which were good but it was really the dim sum that stole the show for us.

Yauatcha is pricier than the average restaurant but is worth it for a treat or occasion. Great food in a stylish venue with friendly attentive service.

Next time Jerina is going for the soft shell crab which on this occasion, she refrained from stealing from the couple on the table next to us!
